Faith Formation
Our greatest responsibility at St. Joseph Catholic is giving your child a firm foundation for their faith.
First Holy Communion
"I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh...So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood, abides in me and I in him." (John 6:51, 53-55).

Through formation classes, children in second grade prepare for the celebrations of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. All children preparing for these sacraments use the Blessed book for general formation. . Additionally, all students will work to understand how beautiful these sacraments are by learning what to expect when they celebrate and receive the sacrament.

We work together with parents/guardians in preparing children through this process with a sacramental parent meeting with Mrs. Robyn Henke. Mrs. Henke will provide consistent and timely communication as the child is being formed. Resources may be provided throughout the year to help parents/guardians support and enforce what is being taught in the classroom.

Confirmation

"And while staying with them Jesus charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, He said, "You heard from me, for John baptized with water, but before many days you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit."
Acts 1:4-5

What is Confirmation?
Confirmation is the Sacrament of Initiation in the Catholic Church in which the candidate receives the gifts of the Holy Spirit by the Bishop who extends his hand and anoints with the chrism oil. The Sacrament of Confirmation enables the faithful to receive the full outpouring of the Holy Spirit, as was given to the apostles on Pentecost, strengthening them in Christian Life.

At. St. Joseph Parish, the Confirmation Program extends two years during 7th and 8th grades. The program used is Chosen: Your Journey Toward Confirmation and includes twenty-four lessons to prepare the students both intellectually and spiritually to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation and to become lifelong disciples of Christ. The material, which uses a mix of media, is comprehensive, relevant and effective.

The program is taught by Mrs. Stundebeck and Mrs. White, our Catechists. Classes are co-ed and are taught every other year. The program involves classroom sessions, special events, and individual and group service. The program culminates with the Sacrament of Confirmation in the spring.
