Why should my child attend St. Joseph School?

St. Joseph School is a Catholic community that offers students a challenging academic education while building their love of God and commitment to improving the world.  We educate the whole student--mind, body, and spirit--and encourage each child to become the person God calls him or her to be.  Ultimately, our goal is to prepare children for academic and personal success in a faith-filled, nurturing environment.

Do you have a Preschool program?

Yes, we have a full-day program for three and four-year olds. 

​

Is there an all-day option for Kindergarten?

Yes, our All-Day Kindergarten program follows regular school hours of 7:50 am -- 3:25 pm, with lunch and recess included.  

​

Do you have an Extended Care Program?

Yes, our Extended Care Program provides after-school supervision from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm.  Please contact the main office 660-388-5518 to inquire about the price of the Extended Care Program.

What is the maximum class size at St. Joseph?

Currently, our average class size is 15.1 students per classroom, with one classroom per grade.

What is the school's curriculum?

Religion, Reading, Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, Art, Music, Technology, Physical Education are taught at St. Joseph Catholic School.  St. Joseph Catholic School follows all curriculum as provided by the Diocese of Jefferson City. 

 

What is included in Religious Education?

Catholic values are emphasized in all spiritual, educational, and extracurricular activities, including:

  • Daily classroom prayer and religion as a subject in every grade level

  • Mass three times a week, with students serving as greeters, lectors, altar servers, ushers, and choir members.

  • Sacramental preparation is incorporated into the school day with a focus on Reconciliation and First Communion in 2nd Grade, and Confirmation in 7th and 8th Grade.

  • Prayer services, rosary, Stations of the Cross, May Crowning, and Reconciliation.

  • Service projects for the parish and community.

  • Daily Prayer Bell at 2:00 pm as a reminder to "Stop, drop, and pray!"

  • Prayer before and after meals.

  • A team prayer is said before all athletic events.

What extracurricular activities does St. Joseph School offer?

St. Joseph is proud to offer a variety of activities.  No-cut sports are offered to students in grades 5 - 8, including football (7 - 8th Grade boys), cross country (7 - 8th Grade boys and girls), basketball (5 - 8th Grade boys and girls), track (7 - 8th Grade boys and girls), Band (5 - 8th Grade boys and girls), Student Council (3 - 8th Grade boys and girls), Bellarmine Speech League (5 - 8th Grade boys and girls) and Quiz Bowl (7 - 8th Grade boys and girls); every child has an opportunity to participate.

When does registration begin for new families?

Typically, registration begins in January for Preschool students and March for K-8th Grade students. 

​

Is there a waiting list?

There is no wait list at this time for K-8.  There is currently a waiting list for the 2023-2024 Preschool class.  Parents are always encouraged to turn in registration materials as soon as possible to try to ensure a place for your child, especially for Preschool and Kindergarten classes.

What admission policies are followed at St. Joseph School?

To be eligible for our Preschool and Kindergarten Programs, children must meet specific age requirements by August 1:

  • PreK3: children must be three years old by August 1

  • PreK4: children must be four years old by August 1

  • Kindergarten: children must be five years old by August 1

​

A copy of the child's Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, Immunization Record, and Baptismal Certificate are required. 

​

Is there a registration fee?

There is a $275 non-refundable registration fee charged to new families at the time of registration. 

​

Are other fees required in addition to the registration fee?

What is the school's daily schedule?

For PK - 8:

  • The first bell is at 7:50 am

  • All school announcements, prayer, and pledge in gymnasium at 7:50 am

  • Dismissal is at 3:25 pm​

    • Preschool dismissal is 3:10 pm​

After School Care (3:30 pm - 5:30 pm)  Full day students in grades PK - 8th may participate.

 Can I volunteer at the school?

Yes! We regularly welcome parent volunteers for a variety of events and activities--inside and outside the classroom--throughout the year.  The talents that our parents provide are a daily blessing to our faculty, staff, and students.  Before volunteering, parents are required to attend a "Protecting God's Children" session and to complete a background check.  For more information, click here.

What are your parish boundaries?

There are no boundaries for the parish.  All are welcome!

​

Where do your graduates typically attend high school?

Almost all St. Joseph graduates continue their studies at Salisbury R-IV High School.

​

Do you offer a special lunch program?

St. Joseph School offers a hot lunch program.  This program is mandatory, unless your child can provide a doctor's note citing a specific food allergy.
